You are using Fedora 44 with the GNOME desktop environment, but there are other desktop environments with different screenshot tools. For example, KDE Plasma uses Spectacle:

I assume what you are referring to is a screenshot application that launches when the PrtSc key is pressed. By default, KDE Plasma uses Spectacle, so you can use this command to install the package: sudo dnf install spectacle After installing it, pressing the PrtSc key should immediately launch Spectacle and solve your issue.

Since there are several desktop environments and multiple screenshot tools, keyboard shortcuts between them may not be universal.

I’m also planning to setup Ubuntu (Debian foundation) side-by-side to learn it as well, so please suggest recommendations for both.

Also, are there more advanced tools you recommend for screen capture for Linux? I’ve used SnagIt on Windows before as a reference, but open to recommendations.

Yes, in GNOME Console, type this command:

gnome-screenshot -d -5

That gives you a five second timer.
